Pinot Blanc 2006
Wine of Controlled Origin Alsace (AOC) - White wine - 12 % vol. - sugar : 4g/l
The vine :
Soil type : Silty and calcareous, rich in small calcareous stones, which enables the soil to harbour and maintain warmth. Exposure : South, South-East or West. Vine management :
15 year old vines. Thinning out the leaves, grass is planted in between every other row of vines and light ploughing is carried out in order to limit plant vigour and the development of grey rot. Harvesting :
65 % of the grapes are harvested at their maturity (about 12 % vol) but without allowing over ripeness, in order to preserve freshness and delicacy of the characteristic aromas of the grape variety Pinot Blanc. 35 % are harvested in over ripeness to bring fat and richness.
The wine :
Method used : Mechanical harvesting gently crushes the grapes allowing extraction of aromas during the pressing. Fermentation is temperature controlled if necessary at 20-21°C to preserve aromatic finesse. Drinking, cellaring potential and food-wine matches : - The wine expresses all the qualities of the grape variety Pinot Blanc with fresh fruit flavours. The mouth is full with a nice aromatic length. - Good to drink now and can be aged for 3 - 5 years. - Can be drunk alone or with any type of food (pork, white meats, salads…). ”An anytime, any place wine”
